If you've been falling behind on your regular workout routine, autumn is the perfect time get it started again. Check out these five simple reasons you should embrace the fall and restart your fitness regimen.

1. Keep off that holiday weight gain
Thanksgiving, Christmas parties, family get-togethers - there are plenty of ways that the holidays can lead to you splurging on seconds and enjoying dessert, but these aren't good for your workout routine. So instead of digging down on pecan pie and feeling bad about the next day, get proactive and kick off your new workout routine before the holidays even start.

Greatist pointed to eating less and moving more as one of the simplest and most effective ways to keep off holiday weight gains. Hit the gym, take the stairs, walk with your family and limit your time lounging around.

2. Motivate yourself for winter vacation
Autumn is the perfect time to sculpt a beach-ready bod for your winter vacation to the Caribbean or Hawaii. If you don't already have a vacation on the books, start looking for airline deals to give yourself motivation. Wanting to look and feel good in your bathing suit can be a powerful motivator for each crunch, plank and rep.

3. Enjoy the scenic outdoors
In many parts of the U.S., autumn is the most beautiful time of the year. Beautiful orange, red and yellow leaves make a great excuse to go for a run, bike ride or hike that'll burn calories. Incorporate the scenic outdoors into your newly revamped routine. Maybe you'll even be able to grab an apple as you run by.

4. Head outdoors before it's too cold
The snow, ice, frigid temperatures and rain of winter can make it difficult to maintain a running or jogging routine, but the fall offers more comfortable conditions. Use autumn as a time to get back into the habit of working out, before you're stuck in the gym for the winter. You may need a jacket, but you'll enjoy yourself while you're out there.

5. Get a head start on New Year's resolution
If, like many Americans, your New Year's resolution has been to exercise more, don't wait for Jan. 1. Start exercising in the fall to get a jump on your promise to yourself. One major advantage of getting comfortable with your routine before Jan 1. is that the gym won't be nearly as crowded.

Chase it with a fall smoothie
Even if you're having a rough time getting back into your routine, making a tasty autumn smoothie in your personal blender can make it a little bit easier. Try the Cranberry Orange Smoothie or the Pumpkin Spice Smoothie to add an extra bit of fun to fall workout routine.
