Why Greek Yogurt is the Ultimate Fall Ingredient

Greek yogurt is a delicious, protein-packed snack that can enhance nearly any fall smoothie. The reason so many people are opting for Greek-style yogurt rather than traditional yogurt is its creaminess and nutritional profile, the Dairy Council of California explained. Greek yogurt is creamier because it's strained three times rather than two, giving it a richer, thicker texture. The organization also pointed out that Greek yogurt has twice as much protein as traditional yogurt and 50 percent less carbohydrates and sodium, not to mention it's a great source of calcium.

Try Greek yogurt in one of these seasonal smoothies for a tasty and filling post-workout snack.

Carrot and Pineapple Smoothie
This bright orange beverage is the perfect sweet smoothie to match the falling leaves outdoors. Pour 1/2 cup orange juice into your blender with 6 ounces of Greek yogurt, 1 cup of ice, an 8-ounce undrained can of pineapple chunks and 2 cups chopped carrots. Blend on HIGH until it's your desired consistency and serve in a festive glass.

Apple Pie Smoothie
Nothing says "fall" better than apples. If you make your own applesauce, this is a great excuse to use it! Mix 1 cup of applesauce and 6 ounces of Greek yogurt in your personal blender with 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg and ice. Blend until smooth on the highest setting and you'll have your own personal serving of this cool, fall treat.

Orange-Pumpkin Pie Smoothie
Enjoy a cold pumpkin smoothie at home this fall to celebrate the season's most famous gourd. Blend 12 ounces of Greek yogurt, 1 cup of pumpkin puree, 2/3 cup of orange juice, 4 teaspoons sugar, 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice and 2 cups of ice on HIGH for a few minutes. Pour into a glass and enjoy.

Fruity Breakfast Smoothie
Wake up on a brisk fall morning with this creamy, fruit-filled drinkable breakfast that features a little bit of everything. Mix 6 ounces of low-fat Greek yogurt with 1 1/2 cups of cut strawberries, 1 chopped banana, 2 cups of ice cubes and 1/3 cup of granola in your blender's jar. Then simply blend on HIGH for about 2 minutes or until smooth. Prepare to stop throughout to scrape the side with a rubber spatula. Garnish with cut fruit and oats for a picturesque breakfast treat, or grab it and enjoy on your way out the door.
