The Perfect Seasonal Gingerbread Smoothie

It's about that time of the year. The air is getting cooler, the trees are nearly bare and snow is just around the corner. While wintertime may presents some major weather problems, it also gives you a chance to enjoy your favorite desserts. 

Whether for Thanksgiving, Christmas or just a random ocassion?, try to recreate one of the most delicious seasonal desserts in smoothie form: Gingerbread. Try this recipe at home in your Oster® Rapid Blend™ 300 Plus Blender

Gingerbread Smoothie 
This smoothie might taste as good as drinking an entire gingerbread house, but that doesn't mean that it has to contain as many calories as every gumdrop, candy cane and piece of chocolate. You can actually make a delicious smoothie that tastes just like gingerbread without the calories of a milkshake. Here's what you'll need to get started: 

  • 1 cup low -fat almond milk 
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons molasses 
  • 1 frozen banana 
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 
  • 1 pinch ground cloves 
  • 1 dash vanilla extract
  • 1 splash or more maple syrup as a sweetener to taste
  • Ice 
  • Your Oster® Rapid Blend™ 300 Plus Blender.

Measure each of your ingredients into your performance blender. Add ice as needed for your optimal consistency. Cover your mixture and blend on HIGH for about 30 seconds. Pour this frothy smoothie into a tall or two and enjoy your cold seasonal smoothie.

If you're serving these to friends or family, simply multiply the recipe. Consider topping with some whipped cream, peppermint candy or even small gingerbread men. 

Alternative Ingredients 
Just like many smoothie recipes, there's plenty of room in this one for customization. For example, we used almond milk. It's a protein-rich, nondairy option that can help the smoothie taste light. However, you can use dairy milk or coconut milk in the same ratio for just as delicious a gingerbread smoothie. 

Aside from the milk you can also play with the ratio of spices to get the exact flavor you want. Use more cloves or less cinnamon. You can also use sugar or calorie-free sweeteners in the place of maple syrup. The key is to find a smoothie flavor that you love. 

This tasty recipe also lends itself to additions. Consider adding chia seeds, protein powder or other popular smoothie additions to boost the nutritiousness of this snack.
