3 Family Desserts for a Thanksgiving Celebration

You've eaten the turkey, devoured the side dishes and now, it's time for dessert - one of the great mysteries of life is how after Thanksgiving dinner, people still have room for dessert! 

Whether you're hosting the holiday dinner or bringing a dish to a friend or family member's house, a delicious dessert is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Try these three recipes for family desserts this Thanksgiving that you can make in the Oster® Heritage Blend™ 1000 Whirlwind™ Blender PLUS Food Chopper:

1. Sweet Potato Pie
Sweet potato pie is a scrumptious Thanksgiving dessert that will have your friends and family asking for a second slice. You can create the light and creamy filling in the Oster® Heritage Blend™ 1000 Whirlwind™ Blender, then top the pie with an indulgent drizzle of caramel sauce and a sprinkle of brown sugar.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups cooked, mashed sweet potatoes
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • Dash salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 milk
  • 1/4 cup light cream
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 package prepared pie crust

Directions
Add all ingredients (except pie crust) to the Oster® Heritage Blend™ 1000 Whirlwind™ Blender and pulse on high until smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Pour filling into prepared crust arranged in a pie pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes. Let cool slightly on a wire rack. Immediately before serving, drizzle with caramel sauce.

2. Cinnamon Apple Puffs
These delicate and delightful pastry puffs look impressive, but couldn't be easier to make. You simply bake the puffs, then top each with a dollop of a cinnamon apple mixture made in the Oster® Heritage Blend™ 1000 Whirlwind™ Blender. They're a festive touch to your Thanksgiving dessert spread - enjoy one, or three!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package puff pastry dough, defrosted 
  • 4 apples, peeled, seeded and diced
  • 3/4 cup apple sauce
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • Powdered sugar for topping

Directions
Roll out pastry dough, then cut into 1-inch squares. Place on greased baking sheet and bake according to package directions. Meanwhile, add all remaining ingredients to the Oster® Heritage Blend™ 1000 Whirlwind™ Blender and pulse on high - stop blending before the apples are fully pureed, as the mixture should still be slightly chunky. Once the the puff pastry is done baking, press down gently with a spoon into the center of each square to create a small indent. Let cool completely before adding the topping. Once they have cooled, fill the indent of each square with a spoonful of the apple mixture. Dust with powdered sugar, and serve.

3. Pumpkin Cheesecake Pie 
Give traditional pumpkin pie a twist by enjoying pumpkin flavor in a decadent cheesecake instead. It's creamy and indulgent, and the perfect festive dessert to cap off your Thanksgiving dinner. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 package prepared crust
  • 20 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature 
  • 1 3/4 cups brown sugar 
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 can pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup sour cream 
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla extract 
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt 
  • Whipped cream for topping

Directions
Add ingredients to the Oster® Heritage Blend™ 1000 Whirlwind™ Blender and blend using the puree setting until the filling is smooth, about 2-3 minutes.  Pour filling on top of the crust, then bake for 45-50 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack, then refrigerate for at least six hours before serving.
