Lunchtime can make or break the rest of your day. You deserve more than the same old peanut butter and jelly sandwich or an overpriced take-out meal. While packing your own lunch is not a revolutionary idea, what you make can be. Mason jar salads may be the right balance of healthy and delicious that your body needs to tackle what you must accomplish.

With the Oster® Oskar™ 2-in-1 Salad Prep & Food Processor, you can prepare your vegetables and other ingredients with ease. If you're not sure where to start, consider these three tips and recipe ideas:

1. The Order of Ingredients Is Essential
If you don't want to end up with a soggy salad, you need to be very careful with your order of ingredients. As a general rule of thumb, your dressing always goes on the bottom of your jar. Then, you top the dressing with a protein or grain to protect the rest of your ingredients from getting wet. After this layer, you can put the rest of your salad fixings, which may include cheeses, veggies, nuts, fruit and more than you want to stay dry until you are ready to eat. You finish with your greens, like spinach, kale and lettuce, which are most prone to wilting.

2. How Long Will It Stay Fresh?
If you prepare your salads in the right order of ingredients and seal them tightly, they can last for five days or more. While this may be the case, if you plan to include perishable ingredients such as hard-boiled eggs, meat or avocados, it's best to add these ingredients the day you plan to consume your jar salad. This way, your ingredients will be crisp, fresh and tasty.

3. Find the Right Recipe
The secret to your success is in the quality of ingredients and flavor profiles you choose. If you want to consume healthier salads, consider making your own homemade dressing and loading up on freshly chopped vegetables from your Oster® Oskar™ 2-in-1 Salad Prep & Food Processor.
