5 Easy and Fresh Salsas

The arrival of warmer weather and sunnier skies marks the perfect time to try and make some fresh and unexpected salsas. Juicy fruits, crunchy vegetables and fragrant herbs combine to create a festive fiesta of flavors that's delectable when scooped on a tortilla chip or spooned on grilled meat or seafood. 

Tomato-based salsas are the classic go-to, but why not expand your horizons by trying out some creative recipes that use delicious ingredients in exciting new ways. Best of all, you can mix these fun salsas right in the Oster® Classic Series Blender PLUS Food Chopper. 1. Strawberry Jalapeño Salsa
Strawberries are a warm-weather staple - put them to good use in this salsa, which balances a hint of heat from jalapeño peppers with the juicy sweetness of the berries. 

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups strawberries, tops removed 
  • 1/2 red onion, sliced in half
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro 
  • 2 jalapeño peppers, sliced in half 
  • 2 large tomatoes, halved 
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Directions
Add all ingredients to the Food Chopper attachment of the Oster® Classic Series Blender. Process until all ingredients are chopped and combined. Transfer salsa to a bowl and serve. 

2. Italian Melon-Basil Salsa
Put an Italian twist on salsa with fresh cantaloupe, basil leaves and mozzarella cheese. It's the perfect salsa for summer and is delicious on pita chips, crostini or bruschetta or spooned over grilled chicken. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cantaloupe cubes 
  • 1/4 cup basil leaves 
  • 1/4 cup olive oil 
  • 2 large tomatoes, halved 
  • 1/4 cup roasted red peppers
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon oregano 
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 ounces small (1/2-inch) mozzarella balls, drained

Directions
Add all ingredients except mozzarella balls to the Food Chopper attachment of the Oster® Classic Series Blender. Process until all ingredients are chopped and combined. Transfer to a large bowl and then stir in the mozzarella balls before serving. 

3. Cranberry Salsa 
Cranberries are a holiday favorite, but the fruit takes on a vibrant new life in the summer months. Lime juice complements the berries' tangy tartness for a fresh and unexpected salsa that's sure to become a new favorite. You can enjoy this salsa with tortilla or pita chips or as a tasty topping on grilled pork. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries 
  • 1/2 cup lime juice
  • 1 yellow onion, halved 
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon honey 
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt 
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Directions
Add all ingredients to the Food Chopper attachment of the Oster® Classic Series Blender. Process until all ingredients are chopped and combined. Transfer to a large bowl and serve.

4. Spicy Corn Salsa 
Bright and bold, basic corn salsa gets a tantalizing kick with the addition of herbs and spices, while cool and creamy avocado keeps the heat in check. This tasty salsa is great with chips and is a stellar spoonful atop tacos, fajitas and burritos. You can use canned corn in this recipe, but if you have corn on the cob left over from a weekend barbecue, use that instead! 

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups corn 
  • 1 red onion, halved 
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil 
  • 3 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro
  • 3 green onion stalks 
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic 
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt 
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cumin 
  • 2 teaspoons red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 avocado, diced 

Directions
Add all ingredients except the avocado to the Food Chopper attachment of the Oster® Classic Series Blender. Process until all ingredients are chopped and combined. Transfer the salsa to a large bowl and then stir in the diced avocado before serving. 

5. Sunny Days Salsa
Celebrate warm days and lots of sunny with this bright and cheery salsa made with juicy summer fruits. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pineapple chunks 
  • 1 cup mandarin oranges, drained 
  • 1 cup mango cubes 
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 3 tablespoons fresh cilantro 
  • 1 red onion, halved 
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Directions
Add all ingredients to the Food Chopper attachment of the Oster® Classic Series Blender. Process until all ingredients are chopped and combined. Transfer the salsa to a large bowl and serve.
