4 Tasty Mac and Cheese Recipes You Can Make in Your Rice Cooker

Rice Cooker Magic 
Making mac and cheese in your rice cooker is as simple as replacing a box of rice with a box of elbow macaroni (or your other preferred mac and cheese noodle). Just pour the dry macaroni in the rice cooker, add water or milk and press the button to cook. Once macaroni has absorbed the water, just like the rice would, you can stir in cheese, milk or cream, seasonings and any add-ins to make a scrumptious mac and cheese meal.

Once you've got the basics down, you can experiment with a variety of fun mac and cheese recipes. Here are four crowd-pleasing combinations to try this month:

1. Chili Mac and Cheese
Need to warm up this winter? Give chili a new twist by mixing it with mac and cheese. With ground beef, creamy cheese and irresistible chili flavor, it will quickly become a new dinner favorite. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef 
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 1/2 cup finely minced onions
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes 
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt + 1 additional teaspoon 
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder 
  • 2 teaspoons cumin 
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup water 
  • 1/2 cup beef broth 
  • 1 1/2 cups milk 
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar jack cheese

Directions
Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. When beef is nearly done, add beans, onions, tomatoes, 1/2 teaspoon salt, seasonings and Worcestershire sauce to skillet and stir to combine. Finish cooking beef and set aside. Add the macaroni, 1 teaspoon salt, water and beef broth to the Oster® DuraCeramic™ Titanium Infused 6-Cup Rice and Grain Cooker with Steamer. Select the setting to cook rice. Once noodles are done cooking, add the milk and shredded cheese, stirring until combined and sauce is smooth. Fold in the chili mixture, and enjoy! 

2. Veggies and Ham Mac and Cheese
Add some nutrients to your mac and cheese meal with asparagus and broccoli. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni 
  • 1 1/2 cups water 
  • 1 teaspoon salt 
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup chopped asparagus 
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cup chopped cooked ham 
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Directions
Add macaroni, water and salt to the Oster® DuraCeramic™ Titanium Infused 6-Cup Rice and Grain Cooker with Steamer. Select the setting to cook rice. Halfway through cooking, add the broccoli florets and asparagus. Once finished cooking, stir in the milk, onion powder, black pepper, flour, ham and shredded cheese. 3. Southwestern Mac and Cheese
Looking to spice up dinnertime? Try this mac and cheese inspired by Southwestern flavors and featuring tasty add-ins like corn and avocado. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni 
  • 1 1/2 cups water 
  • 1 teaspoon salt 
  • 1 cup sour cream 
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese 
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can corn, drained 
  • 1 can black beans 
  • 1 cup diced avocado 
  • 2 tablespoons minced cilantro
  • 2 teaspoons cumin 

Directions
Add macaroni, water and salt to the Oster® DuraCeramic™ Titanium Infused 6-Cup Rice and Grain Cooker with Steamer. Select the setting to cook rice. Once done cooking, stir in the remaining ingredients. Combine until sauce is smooth and creamy, and enjoy. 

4. Spinach Artichoke Mac and Cheese
This fun and festive recipe takes the delicious flavors of the classic spinach and artichoke dip and uses them in a whole new way - with delicious results! 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni 
  • 1 teaspoon salt 
  • 1 cup milk 
  • 1/2 cup vegetable broth 
  • 2 cups fresh spinach, torn into pieces
  • 2 cups chopped artichoke hearts
  • 3/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream 
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese 
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise 
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder 
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder 
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

Directions
Add macaroni, salt, water and broth to the Oster® DuraCeramic™ Titanium Infused 6-Cup Rice and Grain Cooker with Steamer. Select the setting to cook rice. When macaroni is nearly done cooking, add the spinach and artichoke. Once finished cooking,  stir in the cream cheese, sour cream, Parmesan cheese, mayonnaise and seasonings. Sprinkle mac and cheese with breadcrumbs before enjoying.
