Rated 1 out of 5 by Ron 75 from collapsing loaf Like many others, I had the problem of the loaf collapsing during the last 45 minutes of the 3 hour cycle. I followed the recipe for the 2 lb loaf on page 7 of the manual and had the same failed result each time. Finally I followed the recipe on page 38 for the 11/2 lb loaf and it turned out great. I then realized that the order of placing ingredients was different than on page 7, so I followed the placement order from page 38 and the 2lb loaf turned out great. The secret is to add the salt before the flour. I gave the rating of poor, not because the breadmaker was bad, but because the directions were bad. They even state that the second most important secret of making bread is to put the ingredients in in the exact order, then give you the wrong order in the main recipe.

We bought this machine....almost ...20 years ago and I was able to replace the basket when the spindal broke, and I was able to replace the paddle when I accidently left it in a loaf I gave away for a donation....duh! I wouldn't trade this machine for anything. My kitchen would be naked without it. xxxooo Oster! ps I also have the little red 10 cup rice maker and I love it tooooo! Oster you rock!

Since then I've tried out almost all the recipees in the recipee book that comes with the breadmaker. They all work out, if you stick to the exact amounts. I've also experimented a lot. We don't buy bread anymore, and my father sais that thos bread is better than any dessert. The breadmaker is easy to use, easy to clean.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Dissatisifed from Same issue - collapsing loaf We have been making our own bread forever, and after our other bread-maker wore out, we bought this model. Shouldn't have. We read the instructions manual cover to cover, were extremely careful in the measurements, used fresh ingredients - at room tempreture experimented with different types of bread and recipes to "become one with the machine", and it has never worked. Our loaves have always collapsed, without except. Lucky you if you can get a decent loaf - for us...the machine to going back to the store....It's been a waste of time, and ingredients! Buyer beware.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Greg from Spindle breaks I got this for wedding present 14 years ago. I used to make a loaf a week until some months ago. The spindle in the pan fell out - no more bread making. This is the 2nd pan we bought and the spindle failed in both. I am looking at other bread makers. It works when the pan holds together.

This machine is outstanding for what I am doing. Everything goes in and out comes bread. That's great. After my heart attack, this makes life more bearable and also fun. Cooking is a great hobby.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ocusan from There's nothing better than homemade bread. It seems to have a personality as the robot spindle whips ingredients into shape. I like adding soup mixes to mine. Milk has made it too spongy so I add only water, oil & yeast. Egg makes it not form so good as it tastes better without. Adding sugar too makes it so sweet.

Rated 2 out of 5 by cmhe from Collapsing Loaf I had a Toastmaster bread machine for years which worked very well for me. With my Oster I am having trouble with the loaf collapsing shortly before the cycle is finished.
