Hello. Thank you for reaching out to us. To remove the cork, simply depress the upper part of the switch. The spiral will turn in a counterclockwise direction and release the cork. It has been noted that the Electric Wine Opener may experience problems with a small percentage of plastic/ synthetic corks and undersized corks, if in this case the cork should be removed manually. Similar problem with wine opener. Fully charged but the cork will not move up or down. This is our second wine opener with the same problem. The first was purchased from Amazon on March 30, 2021 and the second on Nov 16, 2023!,

Oster, you can make a lot of people happy if you just put a female 2-pin SM connector inside so we can replace the rechargeable battery after it dies. The batteries are $7 online and come with the male-side SM already wired. I've replaced my battery twice in about 3 or 4 years. I also rubbed off the sticky black rubber coating with isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel. This wine opener just keeps on going if you change the original battery. I love it. But don't force us to fill up our landfills with otherwise perfectly good wine openers.
