My wine opener has a cork inside and ran out of charge. Unfortunately I can’t recharge it with the cork inside. How do I remove the cork?

If a stuck cork prevents charging, you can jerry-rig a wire and clip to get power from the AC/DC adapter plug to the opener. Connect the + side (the inside) of the adapter plug to the metal tab the left of the notch on the bottom of the opener as you hold the opener upside down with the notch at the 12 o'clock position. Connect the - side (the outside) of the adapter plug to the metal tab on the right of the notch on the opener. What can you do when a dry cork breaks apart inside the opener and can't be removed by pushing the buttons? Here's a process that worked for me: If a cork breaks off it may cling to the corkscrew so that it can't be removed in the usual way (by pressing the upper part of the switch (This makes the corkscrew turn clockwise as you look into the open end.). You may be able to get the cork to descend down the corkscrew by keeping the cork from turning with the corkscrew. How? 1. Insert a pointed, narrow-blade knife (or a narrow screwdriver) into the space between the opener's inner wall and the corkscrew. It helps to have someone hold a flashlight so that you can see into the opening. 2. Either stick the point into the cork or put the knife blade beside the cork and turn it a bit to hold the cork to the wall. 3. Note: Pressing the upper part of the opener's switch makes the corkscrew turn clockwise as you look into the open end. Press it briefly and see if the cork moves toward the opening. If so a number of short pushes of the switch should move the cork to the end of the corkscrew and out of the bottle opener.

Thank you for contacting Oster®! We are sorry to hear that the back part of your Oster® electric wine opener had become sticky. Sometimes, due to environmental conditions like temperature and UV exposure, the rubber can break down and become sticky. You can mix some baking soda with water to create a thick paste that is about the consistency of toothpaste. Rub the paste over the surface with a cloth, then rinse clean. We hope this helps!
