How to Balance Fun Snacks and Stay Fit During the Holidays
While season's greetings may mean busier schedules, it's easy to stay on top of smart snacking with the convenience and versatility of Oster products that allow you to make it fresh and spread holiday cheer while staying fit. It's certainly not necessary to starve yourself all day just to overindulge at dinner time, in fact, it's downright harmful for your body and guilt ridden for your mind! Fitness model and triathlete Angi Greene says that the key is to find balance and she shows you to how to do so with just a few key words and easy recipes.
B - Be Proactive
Take control of your nutrition and don't let it control you. Have a plan and don't show up to a party hungry. Whenever possible, bring your own creative healthy alternative option to share. I use the Oster® Versa® Performance Blender because of its versatility and powerful 1100 watt motor, perfect for blending and preparing my holiday gathering recipe of choice:
Spinach Dip Served with Gluten-Free Chips
- 2 handfuls of washed baby spinach
- Large ripe avocado peeled and diced
- 1/3 cup tahini or home-made peanut butter with sesame oil
- Squeezed lemon
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp minced fresh cilantro, or dill salt and freshly ground pepper.
A - Alkaline
Your holiday (and every day) diet should include alkaline foods such as: green vegetables, nuts, sprouted grains and fruits. An alkaline diet ensures you are keeping your body in an optimum pH balanced state so that degenerative and autoimmune diseases have a harder time growing. I like to incorporate a salad into all my meals and use the Oster® Fresh+Blend'N Go™ Mason Jar Blender to make my salad dressing from scratch. I blend right into the mason style Ball jar, for the convenience of storing the leftovers in the fridge.
Zinger Dinner Salad dressing
- 2 large carrots, peeled and roughly chopped
- 2 large shallots, peeled and roughly chopped
- 1/4 cup roughly chopped fresh ginger

- 1/4 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 2 tbsp toasted sesame seed oil
- 1/2 cup grape-seed oil
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp coarse salt

L - Love yourself
One of the greatest gifts during the holidays is the gift of health. We need to ensure that we are healthy to help care for our loved ones. As a mom, it's important to lead by example. Find at least one other person that will join you in your plan for a healthy lifestyle and stay connected and accountable to that person.
