New and Delicious Waffle Batters You Didn't See Coming

Next time your make breakfast, don't stick to the boring old recipes you've always had. Feel free to reach outside your comfort zone to try something truly different. 

Here are a few bold, new waffle ideas that you need to try in your waffle maker

1. Bacon Waffles 
Bacon has long been a breakfast staple, but as people get more creative with this delicious food, you should too. Rather than just having your bacon along with a waffle or two, put it directly in the batter. 

All you need to do is make a batch of crispy bacon. Grind up your bacon into small bits then pour a small amount of these into your waffle batter. You'll end up with fluffy waffles that have a strong taste of bacon in every bite. You can even make the bacon in your waffle iron.

2. Gingerbread Waffles 
This variation on the classic waffle is perfect for Christmas morning or really anytime in the winter. Make a gingerbread-like waffle batter, then just cook it up in your iron and serve with whipped cream and a little peppermint. 

3. Lemon Waffles 
If you like topping your waffles with piles of fresh fruit, give them a hint of lemon themselves. With just a little juice and zest, you can give your waffles a subtle but important citrus blast. Serve with raspberries, strawberries or blueberries. 

4. Chocolate Waffles 
Who says every breakfast has to be good for you? Make yourself a batch of chocolate waffles as a treat. Keep it simple with cocoa powder and a sweeter batter or go all out with chocolate chips for a very, chocolate mixture.

5. Corn Waffles 
For a more savory flavor, consider a corn-based waffle mix. Not only will this give you a hearty option, but it can be mixed with vegetables. Add in bits of jalapeno peppers, tomato or even cheese for an omlette-like waffle. 

6. Protein-Rich Waffles 
If you really want to start your day off on the right foot, make sure your breakfast is loaded with protein to power you through the day. Use bits of nuts, oats or protein powder to supercharge your waffles.
