Rated 5 out of 5 by CodeeCB from Great for healthy eating! I am trying to eat healthier and this rice cooker and vegetable steamer is a great easy way to do that! I have always cooked my rice on the stove in the past and my veggies in the microwave and this steamer makes the process significantly easier! Everything you would need to cook both rice and vegetables is included and you can do both at the same time! A grilled chicken breast, steamed rice and some steamed carrots mixed with broccoli is my new favorite meal and this rice cooker is a great addition to my kitchen appliances! I'd recommend this rice cooker to anyone! I received a sample of this product in change for a honest and unbiased review.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TheDavid from Breaking News: It cooks rice! I am a big fan of rice, but I am a terrible cooker of rice. This rice cooker did exactly what I hoped it would: cook my rice well. I liked the simplicity of the cooker, and without a lot of bells and whistles, I expect it to hold up to repeated use for a while. The cooker doesn't take up a lot of space on my counter, so I can leave it out and use it any time I want. I took a star off because when it is plugged in it is always on (either warming or cooking). I'd prefer it if I could turn it off while it is plugged in

Rated 5 out of 5 by KellyAnn from Wonderful Rice Cooker Wonderful Rice Cooker - I had the privilege to try this rice cooker and absolutely loved it. It's very easy to use. You just use the measuring cup that comes with it to measure out your rice and then fill with water to the water line in the pot based on how many cups you are making. Give it a stir, out the lid on and press down the cook button and that's it. It was ready in no time and cooked perfectly. No burned rice. My family looks forward to our rice dinners since we've had this product. I received this rice cooker as a sample to try it out and love it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Justpeachy from 4.5 stars!! Wonderful little rice cooker! This rice cooker is perfect for a small family of 2-4 people. It's simple to use and easy to clean. As long as you follow the directions to rinse your rice before cooking, you should not have any "bubble over" mess. Rinse the rice until the water pours out clear. Also, use the measuring cup provided for the rice. This cup is different from your typical measuring cup. Inside the inner pot, there are measuring lines so you know the amount of rice/water ratio. I found that it is a good idea to stir the rice one time around the 15 minute mark just to keep the bottom rice from getting a little over cooked. To start the unit after the contents are placed into the inner pot, plug in the unit and push down the "cooking lever" located on the face of the pot. Once the rice is cooked, the unit switches to the "warming" mode. The only way to turn the rice cooker "off" is to unplug it. The power cord is a little on the short side, but it wasn't a drawback for me. The instruction booklet covers the needed information, but I wish it included some recipes. There was only a timing guide to steam various veggies. I give this Oster rice cooker a 4.5 star rating!! Its a great little rice cooker. I have loved Oster since I bought the giant mixer with tons of attachments back in the 80's. I gave it to my brother when my family got smaller as they grew up and out of the house. He passed it on as well and it still works. This rice cooker is great. It not only makes rice but SO much more. I have my home alone supper. I dice a chicken breast toss in a can of stewed tomatoes, some frozen peas, fresh diced carrot, chicken broth and rice. (sometimes I dry fry the rice first) and turn it on. It all cooks up by the time the rice timer goes off, even the chicken. I stir in some three cheese blend and I have food for the entire weekend. love love love this. My father passed many years ago and I use this at least once a week. Oster hasn't let me down. Sears used to be a quality product but not anymore. Oster still stands behind what it sells and gives quality merchandise to it's customers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Barbareeba from Worked Like a Charm First Time Out! Very pleased with this little steamer/rice cooker. Got it for a steal during the holiday sale and having used much higher-end rice cookers wasn't sure what to expect. Pleasantly surprised at how quickly it cooked 2 cups of brown rice (under 40 minutes!) -- was so fast that I barely had time to get my chicken breasts and veggies steamed before the rice was done! It did a great job steaming veggies and thoroughly cooked the meat. I recommend using a little cooking spray on the steamer tray to prevent meat from sticking. For foolproof results, it is important to use the included measuring cup and water levels inside the pot, though you will probably want to experiment, depending on your preference for wetter/drier consistency. (For instance, normally the ratio of water to rice is 2:1 for brown rice, but no so using this little cooker.) Also, it is really helpful to let the rice sit for 10 minutes even after it switches from 'cook' to keep warm' without lifting the lid to complete the cooking process before fluffing with a fork. The 'Keep Warm' feature kept the rice at a nice piping hot temperature for a few hours. Had no problem with rice burning on the bottom. I stirred it every so often. It started getting a little crusty on the bottom which I personally like. Just don't leave it on the 'keep warm' setting for hours on end if there is not much rice in the pot or moisture in the rice and it will do fine. It is the perfect size for singles or couples, but for more than 3 people you probably want to go with an 8 or 10 cup size. I've been looking to find a replacement rice cooker at a reasonable price for quite a while and glad I waited. This totally fits the bill!

The instructions were easy to find and easy to read. You must use the measuring cup provided for optimal results. The first time I used it the rice came out perfect. My husband said it was the fluffiest rice ever. Cooking rice in a pot on the stove was never successful for me so I hardly made it but now I am able to give my family a consistent healthy meal. My daughter is 1 and this rice cooker makes rice consistent enough that she can grab chunks of it at a time and not make too much of a mess. My 10 year old and husband had seconds and there was still some left over. I also like the fact that the cover is glass and I can see the rice leftover and not forget about it. I noticed that when I use the larger rice cookers at friends houses...they have black or metal covers and it makes so much rice left over you forget about and when you go to use it again...pppphhheeeww! With this rice cooker I could make just enough for my family of 4. Now with the steamer....I tried packing as much vegetables as possible unfortunately this feature is good for steaming veggies gor 1-2 people...but it usually ends up going to one person because the veggies come out so good. So far I have steamed carrots and brussel sprouts. It makes more sense to use one oster cup of rice with veggies if you are making tomorrows lunch for work or something like that. Overall I am very pleased with the outcome and my family is happy. ***I recieved this 6 cup rice cooker and steamer in the mail for the purposes of reviewing it***and I would purchase or recommend this for anyone given that they read the instructions and USE the cup provided.

I don't know how long I have it but regardless, if my old Oster rice cooker will quit, this particular 6 Cup Oster Rice Cooker will be next on my list. And the red color is still my favorite. Most of my Oster products from waffle maker, bread toaster, Panini maker, rice cooker, are in red. Thank you for making them durable, long lasting, and top of the line products. More power to the best maker of small kitchen appliances that makes our lives easier and manageable.

If you no longer have the measuring cup that came with your Oster&reg; 6-Cup Rice Cooker, no worries, you can use a standard measuring cup instead.

For 2 cups of rinsed white rice (standard measuring cups), you'll want to follow a 2:1 water-to-rice ratio, meaning:

2 cups of rice

4 cups of water

This ratio works well for most white rice types. If you're cooking brown rice or other varieties, you may need slightly more water and a longer cooking time.

Also, be sure not to overfill the cooker. This model has a 6-cup cooked rice capacity (which is about 3 cups of uncooked rice), so 2 cups of uncooked rice is within safe limits.
