I just received my toaster model# 2144295 and tried toasting a bagel with it. Isn't the bagel setting supposed to toast only one side? It toasted both sides of both slices of my bagel. I made absolutely sure I had the "bagel" setting selected.

Thank you for reaching out to Oster®. We value your continued support of our product and we are glad to assist you with your inquiry. There may be a few that have true bagel settings, but they would be older obsolete models. All current Oster® models do not have what we call a “true bagel” setting – i.e. toasting on one side. All other units in the market will only use a timed setting, meaning that when the Bagel button is engaged, there is extra time added to the toasting cycle with all heaters on. We hope this helps. Have a good day!

Thank you for reaching out to Oster®. We are sorry to hear that the latch of your toaster does not stay down. No worries, we are here to help. In some cases, this is caused by a build-up of crumbs in the bottom of the toaster. You may try to unplug the unit. Let it rest for a few minutes and turn it upside down to see if some bread crumbs will come out. Then, try using the toaster again. Also, the toaster must be plugged into a direct wall outlet and have power running to it, otherwise, the lever will not stay down. Your Oster® 2-Slice Touchscreen Toaster has a 1-year limited warranty. If this wouldn't help fix the issue, we'd kindly request that you contact us directly so we can determine the best resolution. Have a good day! https://www.oster.com/support/contact-us

Thank you for reaching out to Oster®. We value your continued support of our product and we are glad to assist you with your inquiry. Please note that when the toaster is first plugged in, the control panel should turn on with only the power ON/OFF button illuminated. This is the unit’s idle state. To turn the toaster ON, press the power ON/OFF button and the control panel/digital functions will illuminate. If you need further assistance, please contact us directly. We hope this helps. I have the same problem - the toaster lever firmly "latches" when in the down/on position. My toaster is brand new, so there's no issue with crumbs or dirt, and everything else works fine. I strongly suspect the manual is in error, as I have never heard of a toaster that doesn't "latch" into the down position. However, please notify me if I am wrong, so I can get this problem corrected.

When toasting smaller things, such as bagels or a slice of bread that isn't very tall, is there a feature that will raise that item high enough to easily pick it up with your fingers? My current toaster doesn't and tongs are needed to extract those items.

I am puzzled why the Oster Customer Care representative says there's no feature that will raise the bread higher. In the toaster manual found on this webpage, the top of p. 9 says: "You can lift the lever upwards from its rest position to raise the toast and make it easier to remove." I own the 2-slice version, and the lever shows "Lift" - you indeed can lift it higher than the normal resting position.
