Jar doesn't lock into place and wobbles
A friend bought this as a gift from BB&B today. She knew I had been looking at Oster blenders for a month or more. I bought the Oster 10 cup food processor a couple weeks ago and have 2 Oster bread machines.
It was exciting to open the box, even if it isn't the model I planned to purchase -not the selection I wanted locally. I wanted to assemble the blender and admire it before cleaning it up and running to the store for some ingredients to use it.
After checking that I had all the parts needed, I assembled it by following the manual. The manual is a bit confusing in both wording and the images. The text is very tiny. The images were of many different models, even in the instructions, so it was read multiple times with a friend to make sure we understood the directions.
When assembling the base to the jar, we must have done this a dozen times before giving up. The jar sits on the base very loosely - doesn't lock at all. If you aren't holding the jar down with your hand it kind of wobbles. Needless to say, there was no need to go buy fresh ingredients. There was absolutely no way I was going to put my food in this machine as unstable as it seemed to me and my friend. Much less, I would never ever feel comfortable turning the machine on. If I had to remove my hand from the jar for just a second with the motor running, I'm sure the jar would go flying off the base. There has to be a level of trust when using appliances to prepare my food, and trust in this model could not be mustered in all the time I spent this morning while my excitement dwindled completely.
I came online to see other reviews and check for answers. None of the reviews I could find mentioned this. I called Oster customer service and the rep I spoke to was very nice and professional. Sadly, I packed up the blender to take back to BB&B tomorrow. The Oster rep told me that the other blender model I was interested in purchasing is one that locks into place. Obviously, I like Oster products, and haven't even considered buying a blender of another brand.
Yes. I am very disappointed in this gift and would never recommend it to anyone with a straight face. But I'm not about to give up on Oster just yet. The rep informed me that the 6811 12 speed blender does lock the jar onto the base, so I will purchase that one instead. I'm sure I'll be happy using that one to keep cool this summer and create healthy and refreshing foods all year.

glass jar is wrongly designed
I had this blender for about 6 months and the pour spout is so poorly designed that you can not pour an ice-shake smoothy without it dripping down the jar. I have to pour over the sink every time to avoid a mess on my floor. Also the glass jar is so heavy yet smooth on the outside that washing by hand is a nightmare! Once it is slippery from the soap you can barely hold on to it because it is so wide at the top and you can't get a secure grip on it anymore. It already slipped from my hands several times and dropped into the sink. It did not break, but it is a pain to wash.
The motor seems underpowered and smells of burning every time I crush ice and the control push buttons feel flimsy, cheap and do not respond well either.
I had an Oster blender before that was about 10 years old and I thought of replacing it with this one, but I have since switched back to my old one because it was so much better.
I would not buy this model again.

Low in price, yet powerful in performance!
I love my Oster blender! After spending hundreds of dollars on different other brands, from Viking to Kitchen Aid, I wish I would have purchased an Oster blender much sooner. Growing up at home, my mother spent a lot of time cooking and baking with the help of her beloved Oster kitchen appliances....many of them she is still has them today. Thank you for continuing to make small kitchen appliances that are easy to use, powerful and can still stand the test of time!

The Worst Blender I've ever Tried!!
I took it back after 1 use! The base was wobbling from the beginning.... put it on floor; other counters and it was the unit. The glass jar wobbled in the base and the buttons were also loose. I tried to hold on tight and blend up 4 medium chunks of watermelon and the blades spun but didn't blend a thing. Washed it out, put back in box and returned it; which was an inconvenience. Hate it! It belongs in a Barbie Doll house.

durable, reliable and very affordable!
I bought this blender at Cosco 4 years ago. I have been using it for smoothies in average once a week, and to my surprise, the blender is still running (I am not replacing it until it breaks). I bought it primarily because of the glass jar, Oster is one of the rare companies that still make glass-jar blenders. I am adamant about using glass jar, and would never switch to plastic-jar blender even if they pay me. This blender makes smoothies that are smooth, thick, silky and well textured. I would say, I've become an expert in making smoothies with this blender. It will crush ice cubes, however, I rarely use that feature, shaved or crushed ice has no place in my smoothies. Washing is super easy, especially the glass jar. Some improvements could be made with jar locking system, however, as I discovered, it takes a little practice to do it well every time. Even if it is not completely and properly locked in the position, its still works. I have recommended this blender to everyone interested in making smoothies and have given it as a present to my friends. I recommend it to everyone, especially people who are looking to buy expensive, high-end blenders (as I did originally), for smoothies and soups, this blender is all you need (unless you have an urge to crush peach pit).
